The Leland Library, located in Brunswick County, NC, is approximately 5,000 s.f. and is located on a land-locked parcel that affords little room for expansion in any one direction. R/DA was engaged to design a 3,600 s.f. addition to help with traffic flow, over-crowded conditions, and stop the roof leaks that have been on-going since construction of the Library in 1993.

The new addition includes two areas – one at each end of the “L” shaped wings. These will be used for additional stack space, a reading area, a conference room, a breakroom, and new public and staff toilets. The open space where the legs of the”L” meet were filled in to provide a much needed work room. The existing computer area was expanded to approximately 3 times it’s present size. A new standing seam metal roof was installed to cover both the new and existing library.
