A new housing complex consisting of 60 two- and three-bedroom units, Port Royal is one of the largest multi-family tax credit developments in SC that promotes sustainability and green living. In addition to funding by the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority, this project was one of the few projects in the country to be selected by USDA Rural Development through a competitive process that promotes green program involvement, the “Energy Efficiency Initiative”. This project has applied for LEED for Homes Silver certification. At completion, it was Energy Star certified, and also received dual certification under the US Department of Energy Builder’s Challenge and National Association of Home Builders Green Silver program. One of the unique components of this project, especially for an affordable housing development, is the 60kw solar system used for energy generation.

R/DA coordinated extensive reviews by the local architectural design review board to assure the design would be complimentary to the surrounding coastal resort community. Exterior and interior features and material finishes provide a market rate appeal. On-site amenities to be enjoyed by residents and their guests include a playground, gazebo, outdoor sitting areas, and a large community building with multi-purpose room, kitchenette, exercise room, media room, and laundry facilities.
